David Makumi

Mr David Makumi

David Makumi is the Chief Executive Officer of Faraja Cancer Support Trust, a Nairobi based charity which provides free of charge complementary therapies including psychosocial support and financial support to needy cancer patients. He has worked in cancer control and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) at clinical and senior leadership levels for more than two decades. David has been involved in high-level advocacy and strategy development in cancer and NCDs at national, regional and international level.

David is member of the World Health Organization Strategic Technical Advisory Group on Non Communicable Diseases (WHO STAG- NCDs) as well as a member of the board of directors of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC). He is an immediate past board member of the East African NCD Alliance and National Cancer Institute of Kenya for two terms up to 2023. David previously worked with Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi managing the cancer programs.

David has a background in oncology nursing and palliative care and holds a post graduate diploma from Dundee University and a Higher Education Diploma in the same from Oxford Brookes University, UK. He has received a number of international awards including the ISNCC Past President Award for his contribution to cancer care. His professional interests include role of nurses as policy advocates and development of low cost models for integrated NCDs care.
