Keynote Speaker Announcement
Professor Dorothy Keefe PSM  
MBBS, MSc, MA, MD, FRACP, FRCP(Lon) 

CEO, Cancer Australia
 
Professor Dorothy Keefe is the CEO of Cancer Australia, Australia’s national cancer agency. Prior to this, she was a medical oncologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH), and Professor of Cancer Medicine at the University of Adelaide. Her long-term research interest has been Supportive Care in Cancer, with a particular focus on gastrointestinal toxicity of cancer therapy. She has a strong interest in health reform, career development and mentoring. She is committed to patient-centred care, reducing unnecessary variation in cancer outcomes, and to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by cancer. During her tenure as CEO, she has led the enquiry into Lung Cancer Screening, resulting in the setting up of a national lung cancer screening program, and the development of the first national Australian Cancer Plan which she is now responsible for implementing.

Breaking news - Abstracts submission deadline extended

Abstract Submissions Extended - Submit before Midnight November 10 

We understand the importance of giving our international delegates ample time to plan their trips and finalise travel arrangements. To support this, we're extending the abstract submission deadline by an additional 9 days, ensuring as many of you as possible have the chance to share your expertise at Congress. The new deadline is midnight on November 10, so don’t miss this opportunity - submit your abstract today!

If you're not quite ready to submit, don't worry. We'll be opening up late-breaking abstracts in February 2025.

International Speaker Announcements 
Kristina Rua, MSN, RN, OCN, ONN-CG
Executive Director of Clinical Operations at The University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center

International Keynote Speaker Kristina Rua is currently the Executive Director of Clinical Operations at The University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, South Florida’s only National Cancer Institute Designated cancer centre, where she oversees the oncology service line, inpatient clinical research, the oncology urgent care clinics and the oncology navigation program.

With over 20 years of healthcare experience, Kristina has spoken nationally on topics including Artificial Intelligence in Cancer Care, Oncology Navigation, Women’s Health, Billing for Oncology Navigation Services and Establishing Oncology Navigation Programs. She has published articles in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as “Role Delineation in Oncology Navigation” and research on Gynecological Cancers.
Kelly Metcalfe RN, PHD, FCAHS, FAAN
Senior Scientist, Women’s College Hospital Research and Innovation Institute. Professor and Associate Dean of Research, Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing and Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto

Dr. Kelly Metcalfe’s research focuses on the prevention and treatment of hereditary breast cancer. She has published extensively on the psychosocial implications of preventive options, including prophylactic mastectomy and oophorectomy. Dr. Metcalfe has developed a decision aid for individuals with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation to help them assess their breast cancer prevention choices.

The recipient of a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Dr. Metcalfe has received many awards recognising her contributions to breast cancer research, most recently the Wendy Lack Women of Action Scientific Award from the Israel Cancer Research Foundation. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. In 2022, she was awarded the Canadian Nurses Association Order of Merit for Research.

Dr. Metcalfe is a Senior Scientist with Women’s College Research Institute where she collaborates with the team of investigators in the Familial Breast Cancer Research Unit. At the Unit Clinic, she provides counselling to women identified with a BRCA mutation to help facilitate their decision-making about the options that are available to prevent breast cancer.
